    This is the first of a number of posts that will deal with prepositional phrases in these three forms. This post provides reference for prepositional phrases made up of prepositions following adjectives. The categories are divided into groups based on the preposition used. I've provided three prepositional phrases I feel are some of the most common, but there are certainly many more. Each prepositional phrase beginning with an adjective is followed by an example sentence.


    About

    Anxious about - I'm anxious about the test tomorrow.
    Sorry about - She's sorry about the mess she made in the kitchen.
    Right about - You're right about his excellent communication abilities.

    At

    Good at / bad at - He's quite good at tennis.
    Angry at - She's angry at Peter.
    Surprised at - I must admit I'm surprised at the lack of interest in this subject.


    By

    Bored by - He's bored by theater, so I wouldn't take him to the play.
    Shocked by - The teacher was shocked by the children's behavior.
    Detained by - The criminal was detained by the police.


    For

    Famous for - Elton John is famous for his pop music.
    Responsible for - Jack is responsible for Canadian marketing.
    Late for - He was late for his appointment with the manager.


    From

    Different from - I feel this picture is quite different from the others I've seen.
    Absent from - The boss was absent from the meeting.
    Missing from - The screws are missing from the installation package.


    In

    Experienced in - He's quite experienced in woodworking.
    Deficient in - I'm afraid your diet is deficient in many nutritional areas.
    Interested in - I'm quite interested in classical music.


    Of

    Afraid of - I'm not afraid of ghosts!
    Fond of - Shelley is quite fond of chocolates.
    Jealous of - I think he's jealous of Peter's success.

    To

    Attentive to - He's always attentive to any customer needs.
    Prone to - Unfortunately, the product is prone to electrical failure.
    Indifferent to - I'm indifferent to raw fish.


    With

    Happy with - I'm very happy with my new net book computer.
    Incompatible with - Unfortunately, that brand of modem is incompatible with Mac computers.
    Obsessed with - Some students are obsessed with grammar. It's important, but it's not everything!
