    Sports idioms are quite common in business settings

    Sales - Golf


    Tee it up = to start a meeting or presentation
    Below par = to not be up to the standard
    Above par = to be better than the standard
    To get up to par = to improve performance to the standard
    Scratch players = competitors starting from the same position
    Get a hole in one = succeed on the first try

    Proposing an Idea to Investors – Baseball
    To make a pitch = to tell someone about an idea
    To strike out = to be unsuccessful
    Pinch hitting = taking the place of someone else
    To hit out of the park = to be extremely successful
    To play in the major leagues = to work with the best in the business
    To throw a curveball = to ask a question or introduce an idea that is not expected
    To step up to the plate = to take responsibility and do a good job
    To field a question = to answer questions
    To knock it out of the ball park = to do something extremely successfully
